C'Kans

by Craig Harris
A dance-inspiring mix of zouk, compas, cadence, salsa and soukous has made C'kans one of the most exciting young bands in the French West Indies. Initially featuring vocalists Beatrie Poulot, Marc Chery and Thierry Martheley, C'kans released only one self-produced album before Chery and Martheley departed in search of solo careers. Recruiting second vocalist Francois Kichensammy, bass player Mike Clinton and keyboardist Thierry Gallion, Poulot managed to keep the band going. They released their second album, En Nou Kontinie in 1996. Their third album, Toujou O Top, followed two years later. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
